Artist Statement
Leading with creativity and empathy, I work to provide the vision and the help you seek.
As an artist, I have no limitations. Whether it is drawing, painting, or some sort of concoction fabricated from my mind. Whatever I create, I make it as an individual. In the portraits I do, I seek the individualistic characteristics of that person and bring it to life. My visual focus is to show the individuality of each figure and concept. I primarily use my own life experiences and features in my work. Not only to show and represent my abilities, but to also tell my story. Or simply if I like the dynamic and composition of a figure or face, I want to capture it. To capture something or someone in my perspective and execute it, that is my goal.
I locate myself under the surrealist artists due to bringing attention to the subconscious features of a person. I stand by my use of realism with a twist, to support my concept of having the viewer see what I see as if they were there with me. It is an art experience that provokes others to see what I see, feel what I feel, and experience what I have experienced. I am inviting the viewer to take a moment and realize each person is different. Initiating a motion within themselves that even the smallest detail and feature makes them unique and that there is no one like them.
I am also a masters student at Dominican University located in San Rafael, CA. I am obtaining my masters in Marriage and Family Therapy with the opportunity to become a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist as well as a licensed Art Therapist. As a first generation Latina woman, I intend to serve the community to the best of my abilities. Serving as many people as possible in English or Spanish, targeting the stigmas that come with the culture towards mental health, while also being an advocate for seeking help within a community that neglects emotions in general.
